After ten straight days of waking up and performing 20 - 40 minutes of cardio exercises, I returned to Temple University today to lead the semester's first Cardio-Sculpt Session [Tuesdays 4:00pm - 5:00pm]. In the past the room was overwhelmed with new-comers, filled to the 55 capacity to a point where it was a challenge to manage. The last two years have been more lower, about 30 today, not sure about last year. Makes me wonder what has changed. (Maybe, there are more options.)
I'm always up for this session, even after 40 minutes of lifting in the IBC gym just before. It was especially nice to see so many familiar faces from the Spring semester, (guess they like the class.)
My plan was to take it moderately easy on the crew today, to ease them into the routine I hope they will conquer and master in the six weeks of this premiere session. Ninety-something days to the holidays and hopefully they will be rockin' this routine and becoming more confident.
These days, in my mind anyway exercise isn't just about jumping around and sweating, it's about confidence as much as conquest, e.g. conquering our fears and especially our doubts. Someone told me she couldn't do a push up... I told her to do a push up and she did one, so I told her, "Now you can't tell me you can't do a push up." I hope she gets it.
Anyway, it was a rockin' class. I left feeling I held back too much on them, but the puddles of sweat on the floor told me otherwise and they all walked away. They may wake up sore tomorrow, but they made it through the session and we can't take that away from them.
Well done TEMPLE!!!
